Sept 1 2010  Tom Cole, 92, of Gauley Bridge, entered into rest August 30, 2010, at CAMC-General Division. Born on February 27, 1918, in Gauley Bridge, he was the son of the late Walter Alexander and Anne Belle Taylor Cole. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Cole; son, Kenneth Tolliver; brothers, John and Earl Cole; and sisters, Grace Cole, Bonnie Stull, Maycle MacKibben, Ruby Roop and Esta Mae Cole. He was a coal miner, having worked for Gomaco, Gauley Mountain, Cement Solvay-Harewood Mine, and worked on the Hawks Nest Tunnel. He was a member of the UMWA. Survivors include his sons and daughters, Thomas Wayne Cole (Josie) of Belva, Bill Tolliver (Vuila) of Gauley Bridge, Sandra Cole Niday of Dunbar and Ann Blankenship of Gauley Bridge; brothers, Walter Cole of Gauley Bridge, and Sonny Cole of St. Albans; sister, Reba McClain of  Jacksonville, FL; and was blessed with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Aug 26 2010 Clarissa I. Taylor, 87, of Canton, passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at her residence. Born on March 1, 1923, in Big Otter, WV, she was the daughter of the late David and Sadie (Sears) Ray. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son “Little Jimmy”; sisters, Virgie Marie Ray and Delma Taylor; and brothers, Robert and Dolan Ray. She was a charter member of Ravenna Free Will Baptist Church.  Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Rev. Carl J. “Jack“ Taylor of Canton; son, Ron (Jeannie) Taylor of Salem, Oregon; sisters, Uneeda C. Ball of Louisville, OH, Della (Jack) Gregory of Conway, SC and Margaret (Bill) Schumaker of Florence, SC; brother, O.C. (Cynara) Ray of Cheraw, SC; several nieces and nephews, including special nephew Ron J. Bower of Columbus, OH and a very special friend, Patty Burnham of Canton. Aug 26 2010   Phillip Tottum Brown, 95, of Canton, OH, formerly of Lizemores, entered into rest August 22, 2010 at Oakhill Manor Care Center in Louisville, OH. Born on July 5, 1915, in Lizemores, WV, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Clyda Stone Brown. He was a heavy equipment mechanic. Survivors include his half sister, Jenny Facemire of Charleston; sons, Donald R. Brown of Canton, OH, Arthur “Bud” (Kack) Brown of Lizemores and Phillip of Clay; daughters, Nancy Joanne Elliott of Louisville, OH, Lucy Yvonne Spencer of Burnsville, Schawana of Charleston and Phyllis of Elkview; 15 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-granchildren. Aug 23 2010  John Akers, 54,of Indore, entered into rest Monday August 23, 2010 at the Hubbard Hospice House. Born December 7, 195, in Columbus, Oh. He was the loving son of William and Karen Collins of Bickmore. John is preceded in death by his daughter Tonia Marie Akers. Aug 19 2010   Paul McMorrow, 96, of Duck, entered into rest Monday, August 16, 2010. Born October 19, 1913 in Ira WV. He was the son of the late Willis and Mattie Duffield McMorrow. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his brother, Clarence McMorrow and infant brother, Charlie James, sisters, Pearly Alice Nutter, Heater Graham, Rosalie Miller, and infant sisters, Anna Jean and Francis. He was a retired coal miner. Survivors include his sister Opal Ramsey of Duck, whom Paul made his home with, Mary Etta Duffield and Joan Nutter both of Norwalk, OH., and Edna Butler of Ft. Myers, Fl., several nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 20, 2010 at Duffield Cemetery, Duck, with Minister Fred Patterson officiating. Aug 19 2010  Jerome Lee “Jerry” Workman, 85, of Dixie, entered into rest August 18, 2010, at Montgomery General Hospital. Born on September 8, 1924, in Pentacre, WV, he was the son of the late Earnest Walter Workman and Ethel Heleana Lipscomb Workman. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Ernest, Ralph and Robert. He attended Oakland Elementary Grade School and graduated from Gauley Bridge High School. He attended Princeton University and graduated from West Virginia University with a degree in Mining Engineering. He was an engineer and maintenance superintendent for Union Carbide, Alloy Division, an international mining manager for Union Carbide Corporation and a mining consultant, and Vice- President of Cedar Coal Company. He was a World War II Army Veteran, serving in the 103rd Timberwolves and Pattons’ 3rd Army. After World War II, he returned to the service as an officer in Germany. He was a recipient of the Silver Star, Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. He married Tresa Bria of Smithers in 1948. The couple had 5 children. After her death in 1977, he married Wilma Arbogast, who passed away in 1999,.  He was a member of VFW Post 7695, member of US Army Corp of Engineers and Boy Scout Master for Falls View Presbyterian Church. Jerry was a member of First Baptist Church of Dixie, and a past member of Bell Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Falls View and Montgomery Presbyterian Churches. Survivors include his children, Jerome L. Workman, Jr. of Charleston, Michael E. Workman of Charleston, Ernest A. Workman of Boomer, Mary Workman Corey of Beckley, and Beverly Workman McGarry of Dixie; his beloved friend of ten years, Marie Hughes of Belva; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be 11 am Saturday, August 21, 2010, at Pennington Funeral Home, Gauley Bridge, with Minister Jeffrey Sevy officiating. Aug 19 2010  Bernice Ruth Hall Matheney, 84, of Newton, went home to be with the Lord Monday, August 16, 2010.  She was born September 27, 1925 at Beech, Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Lee and Ocie Bailey Hall.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Willard; son, Garry; daughter, Mary Lou; and brother, Guy Hall.  Bernice was a homemaker and retired cook at the Newton Grade School.  Also, she had worked at Firestone, Akron, OH.  She was a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church, Elana.  Survivors include sons, David and Terry both of Newton; daughter-in-law, Kathy of Clover; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; sisters, Sylvia Craddock of Spencer, Wanda Houchin of Arnoldsburg and Norma Starcher of Painesville, OH; brothers, Darrell Hall of Arnoldsburg and Paul Hall of Reedy; sisters-in-law, Carol Jones and Ollidene Hall both of Arnoldsburg; brother-in-law, Carl Jarvis of Orma; several nieces and nephews.  A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, August 21 at 1:00 p.m. in the John H. Aug 17 2010 William "Bill" Bryan Elliott, 89 of Dixie, WV entered into rest on August 14, 2010 after a severe stroke. Born on February 5, 1921 to the late Earl & Clara Elliott. Bill was a WWII veteran, a member of the Clay Masonic Lodge #97, a member of the Scottish Rite & Beni-Kedem Shrine, and VFW Chaplain for Post 7695. He was retired from Union Carbide. Bill was a Baptist. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wives Maxene Nichols Elliott, and Bernice Workman Elliott. Also one brother Walter Elliott, and three sisters Berniece Morris, Mary Morris, and Lockwood Sanders Surviving Bill are his son Jack & Alice Banks Elliott of Colonial Beach, VA. Two Daughters Connie Cady of Dickson, TN. Bonnie & Gary Harvey of Belva, WV. One sister Louise Moore of Bentree, WV. Bills grandchildren; Holley, Dale, Deane & Cheryl Crowder Elliott, Tammy Cady Ratliff, Greg Cady & Stephanie Moore. Also Bill has 9 Step children and several grandchildren with his 2nd wife Bernice Workman Elliott. Aug 17 2010 Delmer Russell Paxton, Sr., 69, of Wallback, entered into rest August 13, 2010, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston. Born on April 6, 1941, in Clay County, he was the son of the late Jack Paxton and Martha Drake. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Naomi Joan Phillips. He was a retired truck driver and a member of the House of Prayer. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Paxton of Wallback; son, Delmer Paxton, Jr. of Indiana; daughters, Carol Paxton of Virginia and Betty Owen of Indiana; step-daughter, Kathy Naylor of Charleston; granddaughter, Melissa Beauchamp of Maine; step-grandsons, Nik Owen of Louisville, KY and BJ Naylor of Charleston; brothers, Denver Paxton of Twistabout and Earl Paxton of Delaware and sister, Ellen McKinney of Indore. Aug 17 2010 Grandison Templin Licklider, 93, of Charlton Heights, WV, passed away quietly at home on August 12, 2010, surrounded by loving members of his family. His death was the result of complications of Alzheimer’s. Grandison “ George” was born in Shepherdstown, WV, on February 13, 1917. He was the only son of Julia (Maddox) and Edmond Lee Licklider. He graduated from Morgantown High School and then entered West Virginia University where he earned a master’s degree in Chemistry. During his studies he had the distinction of being inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honorary Fraternity. Grandison graduated from West Virginia University in 1940 and then began his 40 year career as a chemist with Union Carbide Corporation at Alloy, WV. His career was interrupted for three years in which he honorably served his country during World War II. During his military service in the Army Air Corp, he was promoted to 1st Lieutenant while serving as a Meteorologist Officer in the 21st Weather Squadron. His meteorological training was obtained at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). During his military service, he traveled throughout Europe and provided vital weather information for the planning of military campaigns. Upon his return from military duty, Grandison met his wife of 62 years, Evelyn Faye Hiser. She was his best friend and during the last stages of illness was not only his constant companion but also his loving caregiver. The couple settled in Charlton Heights where they had four daughters - Marilyn Faye Hitt (Dr. John -deceased), Suann Carelli (Harry), Betsy Ellen Grzyb, and Virginia Templin Vance. Grandison is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Teresa Chapman, Eric Hitt and Todd Hitt, Benjamin, Charles Templin and Cameron Bradley Keenan, Steve Grzyb, and Justin Templin Licklider. He is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren. During his life, Grandison was an avid reader, and enjoyed golf, tennis and working in his garden. Funeral service will be 1 pm Monday, August 16, 2010, at Pennington Funeral Home, Gauley Bridge, with Rev. James Dempsey officiating. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens, Victor, with graveside military rites conducted by the Ansted VFW Post. A private family viewing will take place at 11 am. Aug 15 2010  Alan Scott McNeiland, 47, of North Charleston, SC, passed away on August 13, 2010.  He was preceded in death by far too many we lost too soon, including his mother, Carolene Samples.  Those he leaves behind to mourn his loss include his parents, Jerry (Barbara) McNeiland, Garland (Linda) Samples;  brothers, Donny (Leigh) McNeiland, Ty (Molisha) Samples, Sparky Samples;  sisters Rose (Allen) Cantrell, Amy (Scott) Armacost,  Emily McNeiland and his fiancée, Katherine “Kat” Rowe.  In addition, he leaves his nieces and nephews, Joshua, Adam, Savannah, Melody, Montana and Wyatt.  Alan was a 1981 graduate of Clay County High School, an Army veteran and friend to who all who met him.  A covered dish celebration of his life will be held Friday, August 20, at 1:00 p.m. at the home of Garland Samples in Bickmore, WV – please bring a dish and share a memory.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Alan S. Aug 11 2010  Roger Lee McClain, 65, of Newton, died Thursday, August 5, 2010, at his home.  He was born May 1, 1945, at Charleston, a son of the late Vernon Randolph and Dorma Maxine Morris McClain.  Roger was a retired heavy equipment operator. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Kay Conley McClain; sons and daughter-in-law, Gary Steven and Lauren Conley of Gastonia, NC, and Jamie Lee McClain of Norfolk, VA; one grandson, Colin Dean Conley; one brother, Robert Leo McClain of Newton. Juky 27 2010   Roy Dale Harlow, of Summersville, WV, passed away, at home, on Sunday, July 25, 2010, after a long battle with cancer.  He attended Enon Baptist Church.  He was a coal miner, construction worker and was an employee of West Virginia Tire Disposal. The most important part of Roy’s life was his wife, whom he cherished.  He also held dear to his heart, his children and grand and great-grandchildren, his siblings, his extended family, families in law and his many friends.  Next, he loved his Harley.  He lived by the motto “Ride to live and live to ride.”   Roy was an avid hunter.  He loved the sport of hunting deer, bears and turkeys.  He never missed an opportunity to go camping and boating.  Roy also enjoyed raising grand vegetable gardens and going gen-seining. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Harlow and Dora Inez McCutcheon Harlow. Roy is survived by his wife, of 32 years, Sonja Faye Harlow. He is also survived by his son, Shawn McBrayer. July 21 2010  Mary Audra Hopkins, born May 18, 1925, daughter of the late Earley and Dicy Park Brown, departed this life Saturday, July 17, 2010. In addition to her parents, Audra was preceded in death by her loving husband, Paul Lorentz Hopkins, brothers - Stanley Hugo and William Clyde, Glenvil and Denvil Brown, two sisters - Arbustus Brown Brady and Geraline Brown Samples. Surviving are - one daughter, Laura Denise Taylor (Rick) of Ovapa, two sons -- Timothy Benet (Miriam) of Clay and Paul Lorentz II (Leanna) of Valley Fork. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, Jeremy, Richard “Rick“ and Matthew “Matt” (Danielle) Taylor; Jonathan, Sarah and Michael Hopkins; Carlee and Jacob Hopkins, and 2 precious great-grandchildren--Parker and Addison Taylor. Also surviving are two brothers, Otto Brown of Fola and Ronald Brown of Eleanor, WV and three sisters - Myrtle Belle Arbogast of Elkview, Arlene Kaye Jett of Little Hocking, Ohio and Sylvia Hope Summers of Ovapa and many friends and loved ones who will miss Audra very much. Audra was always a busy person, rising early each day to care for her family.  There will never be another biscuit made as good as hers.  Fresh out of high school, she began work.  She worked  in many capacities. As a stenographer (she always praised God for this gift), she worked at the WV Extension office, Elk River Coal and Lumber Company, and the WV Division of Rehabiliation. She retired from Clay County Health Department/WIC division.  She and her husband Lorentz also ran an egg and milk delivery business in Ovapa, and a small business in Clay called Hoppy’s Drive In. They also traveled extensively before starting a family - including working in the Boeing Aircraft Plant in Seattle, Washington. Audra taught a Bible Class which she took very seriously at Bethel M. E. Church where she and Lorentz attended. She always helped others and worked to see them saved by her sincere testimony. Most important to her, was her family. She was a devout mother, a grandmother and a true Christian. She encouraged, She shared, She did not judge, She accepted and soothed like a healing balm! And we will never forget her love to us all! Rogers, 76, of Newton, passed away Monday, July 19, 2010 in the CAMC – General Hospital, Charleston, after an extended illness.  He was born February 23, 1934, at Newton, a son of the late Rev. Ernest F. and Mabel Tawney Rogers.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Keith Rogers; and a sister, Barbara “Bobbie” Beistle.  Kermit was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.  He was an avid sportsman, who loved to raise and train Treeing Walker hounds.  He had been a long time member of the Clay County Coon Hunter’s Association and a member of the National Redbone Association.  Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Betty Bird Rogers; daughters, Kathleen A. July 19 2010  Bret E. Stutler of Rt. 1, Clarksburg, departed this life suddenly July 15th, 2010 in Florida as a result of a motorcycle accident.  He was born in Akron, Ohio on September 3rd, 1960, a son of Joseph “Jiggs” Stutler and Delores Kester Stutler of Clarksburg. He is survived by the love of his life, Delores Hileman Evans Stutler, whom he married July 8th, 2008 in Niagra Falls, New York. Two stepchildren, Terrie Lynn Evans Shuman and her husband Joel, and Brian Evans and his wife April, all of Rockford, West Virginia. Five step grandchildren, T.R., Eli, and Dustin Evans, J.J. July 14 2010  Rev. Marvan Given Frame, 84, of Charleston died on July 5, 2010, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born on June 7, 1926, to Norman Benton Frame and Mintie Caroline Frame of Glendon. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Edna Jane Frame of Glendon. He was a graduate of Gassaway High School's class of 1944 and a WWII veteran, American Theatre of Operations, U.S. Army Air Forces, from which he was honorably discharged. He graduated from Morris Harvey College in 1950 with an AB degree, majoring in English and history, and completed his Master of Divinity Degree in 1955 from Vanderbilt University Divinity School. He was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Letters from West Virginia Wesleyan College and was a Master Mason affiliated with Nitro Lodge 170. The Rev. Frame enjoyed a 44-year career, from his earliest days as a student minister through his ministry as an ordained elder of the United Methodist Church, where he served various appointments throughout West Virginia. His initial appointment in Full Connection was as associate pastor, Wesley Church in Morgantown, and subsequently as the pastor of Trinity Church in Charleston, Barrett and Bald Knob Circuit, Clay Methodist Church, Mason Methodist Church, Grace Methodist Church in Keyser, Spruce Street United Methodist Church in Morgantown and St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Nitro. He was appointed by Bishop Fred Holloway to serve as district superintendent of the Beckley District that included Boone, Fayette, Logan, Raleigh and Wyoming counties, during which time he also served as a member and secretary of the Bishop's Cabinet. In this later period, he was called to minister to survivors and families affected by the Buffalo Creek Flood disaster. Among his ma! ny West Virginia Conference responsibilities included his service as secretary, Board of Missions; secretary, Board of Ordained Ministry; and Board of Governors and secretary-treasurer of Pastor's School. Following his retirement in 1991, the Rev. Frame remained active in community service. He was elected founding president of Charleston Police Department's Neighborhood Watch Coordinating Committee, a position he held for nine years. During this period, Community Policing was introduced to the West Virginia State Police as well as police departments in Nitro, South Charleston, Williamson and Montgomery. He was honored to have said prayers at the graduation of members of the Citizens Police Academy for a period of 12 years. In addition, he was grateful of his friendship with and leadership of Lt. "Mac" Richard McGinnis, retired, and Lt. Valerie Strege in these CPD Neighborhood Watch activities, as well as the privilege to have served under five chiefs of police including Dallas Staples, Fred Marshall, Jerry Riffe, Jerry Pauley and Brent Webster.  In his retired capacity, the Rev. Frame continued to participate in various clergy functions in support of the Rev. Frank Shomo, Elizabeth Memorial United Methodist Church, as a volunteer chaplain at Thomas Memorial Hospital and in service to many other friends and families. On December 24, 2006, at the age of 80 years, he participated in his 60th consecutive Christmas Eve Service. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Elizabeth Frame; sons, James N. Frame and his wife, Leslie, of Charleston, Paul Frame of Chandler, Arizona, Peter Frame of New York City, Jon Frame and his partner, Felipe Sanchez, of Ashville, North Carolina; daughter, Miriam Tinsley and her husband, David, of Versailles, Kentucky; grandchildren, Benton Frame, Noelle Frame, and Lily Frame, all of Charleston, Kaitlyn Tinsley of Palm Desert, California, and Hannah Tinsley and Jennifer Tinsley of Versailles, Kentucky.  The Rev. Frame donated his body to the West Virginia Anatomical Board through the West Virginia University Human Gift Registry to be of service in the training of future health care providers. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 9, at Elizabeth Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Frank Shomo officiating.  The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the compassionate care provided by Dr. Richard Hayes, Dr. Karin Kresa-Rheal, Dr. James P. Tierney, Dr. Rodney Dean, Dr. Matthew Upton and the staff of Quarry Manor. July 9 2010  Bernice Lea Weaver, 77, of Chester, WV, formerly of Lizemores, WV, passed away July 8, 2010, after a one year battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on May 20, 1933, she was the daughter of the late William Bryan and Donnie Edith (Jones) Stone. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Joe Paul Baker, her son, Paul Bryan Baker, and 2 brothers, Billy Jr. Stone and Russell (Buck) Stone. She retired after 18 years as a teacher’s aide in Clay County. Bernice was always active in her church while living in Lizemores and in Chester. She had been a soloist and music director in both churches. July 3 2010  Dale Edwin Fluharty, 72, of LeRoy, died Thursday, July 1, 2010, in the Roane General Hospital, Spencer. He was born December 7, 1937 at Liverpool, a son of the late Harris Burl and Mary Jane Fleming Fluharty.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters. Mr. Fluharty was the owner and operator of Fluharty’s Used Cars, Spencer, and the owner of Clay Auto Parts, Clay.  He was a member of the Teamster’s Union, Local 175, Charleston, and had worked for Geupel Construction and High Power Energy, Summersville.  He was a former police officer with the Parkersburg Police Department for over 10 years.  Also, he enjoyed his antique cars. Survivors include his wife, Shirlene Ellison Fluharty; three sons, Dale Edwin Fluharty, II of LeRoy, Ronald Harry Fluharty of Parkersburg, and William Burl Fluharty of Scott Depot; brother, Burl David Fluharty of Harrisburg, PA; two sisters, Edna McVey of Parkersburg and Louise Brabham of Davisville; 10 grandchildren.  A graveside service will be held Sunday, July 4 at 2:00 p.m. in the Eventide Cemetery, Spencer, with Pastor John W. June 26 2010  Floyd Sargent, 88, of Clay, entered into rest Friday, June 25, 2010 at the home of his sister-in-law and brother-in-law in Rock Cave. Born August 17, 1921 in Swiss. He was the son of the late Billy and Martha Sargent. In addition to his parents he was preceded by his son, Ronnie Sargent, 4 brothers and 1 sister. Floyd was a retired coal miner for Ward Coal Company, and a WWII Army veteran. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart Bronze Star, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Expert Marksman and Good Conduct Medals, a Life Member of the Clay VFW Post # 4419. He was a contributor to the New Clay County Veterans Memorial to honor all veterans in Clay County and throughout the country. Floyd is survived by his wife, Carol Brown Sargent of Clay, step-sons James Summers, Robert Grose both of Wallback, Darrell Grose of Cartersville, GA., daughters, Sharon French of Houston, TX., Robin Adkins of Cleveland, OH., several grandchildren and great grandchildren. June 17 2010   Allen “Lacy” Fitzwater, 65, of Maysel, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on June 17, 2010, after a battle with brain cancer. Born on June 16, 1945, he was the son of the late Howard “Buzzy” and Lola Thomas Fitzwater. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Orlene Myers and O. Tressie Fitzwater, and brothers, Harold and Basil. He served in the United States Army and retired from Cabot Oil and Gas. After his retirement, Lacy enjoyed spending his days farming and riding his Honda Goldwing Trike. Lacy loved cheering for the West Virginia Mountaineers! James Dean “Jimmy” Lowe, 53, of Spencer died Thursday, June 17, 2010, in the CAMC-Memorial Hospital, Charleston.  He was born December 17, 1956, at Elizabeth, a son of Darol P. and Delores J. “Dee” Jarvis Lowe of Spencer.  Jimmy was a 1975 graduate of Spencer High School.  He worked with his father in the family business, Spencer BSA, Inc.   He entertained many people while playing drums for several different rock bands over his lifetime.  He loved his family and all God’s creatures and he enjoyed spending time fishing and restoring antique furniture.  In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 35 years, Patricia L. Hammack Lowe; daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and Jason Bennett of Spencer; three grandchildren, Kiersten, Cameron, and Kaci; two brothers, Randy P. Lowe of Spencer and John D. June 13 2010  Violet Naoma (Tiny) Plumley, 86, of Charlton Heights, died on June 11, 2010, at the Hidden Valley Nursing Home, Oak Hill, WV, with her loving husband, and daughter at her side, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s and other ailments. She was born on September 6, 1923, in Pear, WV (Raleigh County), the youngest of six children of the late Fred and Naoma Plumley Patton. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings Edith Queen, Opall Hancock, Carl S. Patton, James Oral Patton, an infant daughter, Debra Plumley, and grandson, Steven Wallace. Tiny was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, and an avid reader. She was a member of Boomer Baptist Church for many years. June 7 2010  Collis Herman “Sam” Goad, 85, of Wallback, entered into rest on June 2, 2010, at Braxton County Memorial Hospital. Born October 11, 1924, in Willis, Va., Sam was the son of the late Herman and Lauretta (Wade) Goad. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Corda Coulter Gray Goad, in 2002. Sam was a 1942 graduate of Floyd County High School in Virginia. He later received an honorable discharge from the service. Sam was employed at Wilson Funeral Home in Clay until his retirement in l989. Sam is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Hugh Wade and Winnie Goad of Willis, Va. In addition, he is survived by a step-granddaughter and dear friend, Dr. Ellyn McLaughlin of Annapolis, Md. June 6 2010  Webster Clyde Sinnett, Jr., 83, of Spencer died Friday, June 4, 2010, in Roane General Hospital after an extended illness.  He was born August 27, 1926, at Roxalana, Roane County, a son of the late Webster Clyde and Emma Frances Jarvis Sinnett.   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters and four brothers.  Clyde was a 1949 graduate of the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, Cincinnati, OH.  In 1952, along with his brother, Robert L. Sinnett, he established the Sinnett Funeral Home in Spencer, which he operated until his retirement in 1989.  He was a member of the National Funeral Directors Association and the West Virginia Funeral Directors Association.  He was one of the founders of the Roane General Hospital and was a charter member of the RGH Board of Directors.  He was a long-time member of the Traders Bank Board of Directors.  He was a US Army veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion Post 21, Spencer.  He was a member of the Rush Creek Baptist Church near Spencer.  Clyde was a member of the Linden Lodge #83, A.F. & A.M., the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, and the Beni Kedem Shrine Temple, all for over 50 years.  Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Ron Stewart of Spencer, Marilyn and Tom Harrison of Wilmington, N.C., and Debra Sinnett of Miami, FL; four grandchildren, Eric, Tracey, Ronda, and Amanda; six great grandchildren and four step-great grandchildren; brother, John W. May 18 2010 Madge Young Conner, 96, of Maysel, entered into rest May 16, 2010, at Braxton County Memorial Hospital. Born on October 12, 1913, in Flat Fork, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Lillian Bragg Young. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Inez Russell, and husband, Noble E. Conner. She was a retired school teacher, having taught 27 years in Clay County, 2 years in Nicholas County and 8 years in Fayette County. She was a member of Maysel Missionary Baptist Church, Order of the Eastern Star Francis Chapter, the Rebekah Lodge, the Oriental Shrine, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the Retired School Employee’s Association, the Clay Women’s Club and Delta Kappa Gamma. Though her accomplishments were many, her greatest joy was in making a difference in the lives of children. Survivors include her daughters and a son-in-law, Sherry L. and Doug Davis of Washington and Brenda Rider Sirk of Maysel; four grandchildren, Jeff Rider of Clay, Beth Beebe, Aaron Davis, and Chad Sirk all of Parkersburg; three great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. May 13 2010  Paul Gene Moss, 80, of Sutton entered into eternal life on May 9, 2010, after a long illness. Born February 22, 1930, in Widen, he was a son of the late Lanty and Leah Moss. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Betty Starcher; and brothers, Billy, Chester and Charles Moss. He was a retired auto mechanic, having served customers in Braxton for many years. He was a Christian and a member of Christ Church United Methodist, Sutton, a U.S. Army veteran, a member of the Strange Creek Masonic Lodge 130 AF&AM, Strange Creek, an avid Mountaineer fan and a loyal Democrat. Paul was the founder of the Braxton County Fellowship Home in 1984, a halfway house for recovering substance abusers. He dedicated over 30 years of his life to helping others in the recovery and rebuilding of their lives as a mentor and sponsor through the AA program. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a friend to all who had opportunity to know him. Paul is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Ruby Bever Moss; daughter, Elaine A. May 12 2010 Our beautiful wife and mother, Maysel Morris, 85, of Dixie, WV, passed away on Monday, May 10, 2010. She was born on June 6, 1924, in Clay County, WV. She was known for her love and kindness for all. She was always willing to help feed, clothe, and care for anyone in need, especially children. She never failed to offer food and refreshments to any and all who happened to drop by for a visit. She was a Christian lady who loved going to Church and she also loved to sing. She was preceded in death by her parents, William F. and Virgie Sizemore Holcomb; brothers, Chilton, Burt and Lloyd Holcomb; sisters, Alpha Pritt, Clara Mobilene and Velma Ferrand; and one grandson, John Wayne Morris. She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Garland “Bill” Morris of Dixie; a son, Billy (Brenda) Morris of Dixie and a daughter, Carolyn (Carl) Morris of Mount Nebo. Also surviving are grandsons, Eugene (Lois) Morris of Dixie, Carl A. May 12 2010  Rodney Dale Loftis Sr., 61, of Charleston went home to be with the Lord May 9, 2010, at CAMC Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Rodney was born February 20, 1949, and was the son of the late Chester Eary and Betty Loftis Buscher. He was also preceded in death by maternal grandmother, Bertha Fields Miller; and stepfather, Bud Buscher. Rodney and Shonette started Rodney Loftis & Son Contracting from scratch and built it up to a multi-million dollar company. They worked side-by-side for over 35 years. They later incorporated with their children to keep the tradition of quality work and outstanding service they have provided over the years. His children will continue with the business. He was an honorary member of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department and Sissonville Volunteer Fire Department. He dedicated time and resources to both of these organizations. He was a member of the Kanawha County Democratic Committee for the past 12 years and, in 2008 he was named Kanawha County Democrat of the Year. At the time of his death, he was financial chairman of the Kanawha County Democratic Executive Committee. He was a staple in the community during times of need, where he freely gave his time and resources for people in need and disasters that occurred. Rodney, his family and Rodney Loftis & Son Contracting have, over the years, given to many charitable organizations in need. May 6 2010  Katie Elizabeth Smith was born September 25, 1920, in Amma, West Virginia, and died May 1, 2010, in  Harrisonburg, Virginia.  Her parents were Aljournen William and Linnie Carper Vineyard.  She was the second oldest of five sisters and has been preceded in death by Frankie Jane Conley, Lillie Mae Hendrickson, and Monsa Jean Kincaid.  She is survived by her youngest sister, Georgia Madeline  Hershberger of Denver, Colorado. She met and married her lifetime companion, Isaac Brooks Smith (deceased 2006) in 1940.  Katie and Brooks were parents to three surviving children, Dr. Dennie (Lana) Smith, a Professor and Department Head at Texas A&M University; Dr. Randy (Debbie) Smith, a Dentist in the Ripley/Charleston area, and Dr. Nina Smith, a Physician in Harrisonburg, Virginia.  They had two children, Timothy and Katherine, who died at birth. Katie had nine (9) grandchildren and twelve (12) great-grandchildren whom she loved, nurtured and adored.  Grandchildren – Chad, Niki, and Shannon (Dennie); Raigan, Brooke, and Carrie (Randy); Matthew, Nathan and Katie (Nina) ------ Great-grandchildren:  Zachery, Devon, Riley, Tess and Tabitha (Dennie and Lana); Ashtyn, Kaitlyn, Christopher, Deven, Greyson, Olivia and Savanna (Randy and Debbie). Katie graduated from Spencer High School in 1938 and after a year at Glenville State Teachers College, she began her career teaching in a one-room school in Roane County.  She continued her education at Morris Harvey College, earning her Master’s degree from West Virginia University when she was 40 years old.  Other than Roane County, she had teaching positions in Clay County, Jackson County and Mason County.  She retired in 1980 with 28 years of service. Katie will be remembered by her family, friends and students as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and aunt, a loyal friend who had an easy laugh, and a favorite teacher to many students. Services will be held at the Newton Baptist Church, Newton, West Virginia, on Saturday, May 8, 2010.  There will be a remembrance hour beginning at 1:00 p.m. with the funeral services to begin at 2:00 p.m.  Burial will immediately follow at the Smith Cemetery. April 30 2010  Gwyn Warden Naylor, 91, of Stanaford, formerly of Boomer, joined the angels after a short illness at the Beckley VA Hospital, on Friday, April 30, 2010.  Gwyn’s life was devoted to his family and his church. He was a lifetime member of the Gauley Bridge Baptist Church. He was a retired electrician at Union Carbide Alloy, and a Navy veteran form World War II. At the church he was a member of the Ammell Class, sang in the choir for many years, and served as the chairman of the usher committee. He also was a member of VFW Post 7695 Ansted. In his later years his hobbies were watching Westerns, and the Gaithers on TV, he also enjoyed watching the wildlife from his window Gwyn was born February 16, 1919 in Charleston, WV., he was the son of the late William and Margaret (Naylor) Jones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years Betty Jane White Naylor, also brothers Jess Naylor, of Florida and Bill Naylor of California.  Left to cherished precious memories is his son David and wife Holly of Stanaford, granddaughters, Holly Winter of Falls View, Faith Thomas and husband Brian of Hurricane, Alisha Naylor of Boomer, Destiny Basil of Stanaford, nine adored great-grandchildren, plus many much loved nieces, nephews, and other close relatives. April 18 2010  Freda D. Nichols Cogar, 85, of Dixie, passed away on April 15, 2010, at home after a short illness. Born on January 19, 1925, in Adonijah, Clay County, she was the daughter of the late Arnold and Gladys Barnett Nichols and step-daughter of Agnes Ramsey Bird Nichols. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Dallas Cogar; brothers, Arley and Maynard Nichols; sisters, Merlene Nichols Bird and Maxine Nichols Elliott; step-sister, Emil Walker, and step-brothers, Billie and Wesley Bird. She was a homemaker, a loving mother, mother-in-law, “Ma Cogar”, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, who devoted her life to her family. Her favorite day was Sunday where, still at her age, she cooked and expected all of her family to be there. She will be sadly missed by all that knew her and loved her. April 9 2010 Anna Mae Smith Parsons, 68, of Hartland, WV entered through the gates of Heaven on April 8, 2010. She was preceded in death by her father Carl Smith and beloved son Eric Parsons. She is survived by her husband Lawrence and daughters Anna Corbett (Trooper) of St. Petersburg, FL, Benita Reed (Rick) of Tunkhannock, PA, and Vicky Davis (Henry) of Clay, WV. Also surviving Anna is her mother Olive Smith Nicholas of Clay, sisters Gladys Keith, Garnett Criswell, Alice Heaton, and one brother Paul Smith, all of Clay, WV. She leaves behind four grandchildren, Joshua Jarvis, Caleb Jarvis, Kristian Thomas, and Amanda Salisbury, and also one great-granddaughter, Audrey Thomas. April 8 2010  Mrs. Thelma Ireda Jones, 89, of Clay, passed from this life to her home in Heaven on April 6, 2010, after a long battle with Parkinsons. Born on November 14, 1920, in Nicholas County, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Chessie Ramsey. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald “Firpo” Jones; grandson, Jamie Gency; three brothers, Robert, Dana and Damond Ramsey and three sisters, Jean Asbury, Oleta Nichols and Juanita Legg.  Thelma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.She is survived by her sons; Gary Jones and wife, Libby, of Hurricane, Joe Jones and wife, Bertha, of Red House; daughters, Jackie Hoffman and husband, Pat, of Summersville and Sharon Gency and husband, John, of Elkview. Thelma was the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Burnell Ramsey of Salisbury, NC, Mike Ramsey of Cortland, NY, Jim Ramsey of Sterling, OH, David Ramsey of Hinesville, GA and Larry Ramsey of Clay; sisters, Bonnie Price of Clay and Roma Davis of Lake Wells, FL; special friends, Frank and Marion Walker of Clay and Jane and Kate Steele of Gallipolis, OH.  Thelma graduated from Clay County High School and was a life long resident of Clay County. She worked at several businesses in Clay and was a member of Fairview Baptist Temple. March 17 2010  Gary William (Patric) Sines, 58. of Rt. 2, Salem,WV, died Monday, March 15, 2010, at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg following an extended illness. Patrick had lived in St. Albans, WV, prior to moving to this area and had been an employee of Pierson Lumber Co. in Clay County for approximately ten years. Born October 4, 1951, he was a son of the late James Sines and Betty Lou Fearer Sines who resides in Confluence, PA. In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife,Theresa Ann Swiger-Burgess Sines of Salem, five sons; Jason Sines and Jeremie Sines of Confluence PA, and Eleazar Burgess (Sarah), Uriah Burgess (Whitley), and Josiah Burgess of St. Albans; one daughter Janelle Sines of Confluence, two brothers, Roger Sines, address unknown and Ronnie Sines also of Confluence PA. Also four grandchildren, Ellianah and Aidan Burgess and Sierra and Justin Sines. Feb 25 2010  Hazel Maxine Fitzwater, 82, of Boomer passed away Monday February 22, 2010, of natural causes at Montgomery General Elderly Care, Montgomery. Hazel was born July 8, 1927, the daughter of Alfred Bruce Hanshaw and Allie Winnie (Rogers) Hanshaw, in Clay County. She had four brothers, Homer, Leamon, Romie, and Wannie. She also had five sisters, Alice, Gilberta “Sis”, Lona, Maysel, and Stella. She was the postmaster at Valley Fork and also worked for Montgomery Ward in Charleston. She enjoyed sewing, yard sales, flea marketing, and playing with her grandchildren. She always saw the positive in everything and everyone and her motto was “Where there is a will, there is a way.”  She is survived by sons, Randy (Nancy) Fitzwater of Boomer, David (Karen) Fitzwater of Charleston and John Fitzwater of Boomer; four grandchildren, Brittany Long, Joshua Fitzwater, Johnathan Fitzwater and Lindsey Fitzwater; and a multitude of nieces and nephews. Hazel was a member of the Boomer Baptist Church. Her family would like to express their appreciation to Mrs. Reba Jenkins for her loving care of their mother during her illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Ray Fitzwater; infant son, David Ray Fitzwater; her parents; five sisters and four brothers. Her remains have been gifted to the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine for Alzheimer's disease research. Arthur McCoy Morton, 90, of Lizemores went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 20, 2010, at home, with his loving wife by his side, after a long illness. Arthur was born on January 29, 1920, in Lizemores and was the son of the late Luther and Flora Morton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ernestine; son, Ron; brothers, Curtis and Homer; sisters, Reba Dorsey, Georgia Dorsey and Ottovie Ramsey; and stepson, Fred Grose. He was a former trustee and member of the Lizemores United Methodist Church and retired from Union Carbide Mine after 34 years of service. He was a World War II Army veteran. Arthur was a devoted Christian. He was a quiet and soft-spoken man who had two families that loved him very much.Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 15 years, Jeanette Morton; daughter, Susan (Norris) Ellison of Sebring, Fla.; sons, Rick (Sandra) Morton of Lizemores and Kermit (Faye) Morton of Winfield; sisters, Dena Fitzwater of Dixie, Flora Jo Kilburn of Kanawha Falls and Arlene Slusher of Bedford, Ind.; stepchildren, Pamela (David) Wilson of Victor, Roger (Sharon) Grose of Marietta, Ohio, and Bob (Debra) Grose of Bentree; eight grandchildren, 10 stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and 14 step great- grandchildren. Andrew George Guthrie, 47, of St. Albans, formerly of Gauley Bridge, died Friday, February 19, 2010. Andrew was born February 18, 1963, in Clay and was a son of the late Leonard E. and Elsie Faye Workman Guthrie. He was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School, a CAD operator for Whirlpool and attended Brownsville Holiness Church. He also was an Army veteran and an avid outdoorsman. Vada M. Lykins, 90, of Summersville went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 13, 2010. She was the loving wife of the late Radford Lykins, and the mother of three sons, Jerry Lykins of Millsboro, Del., Stephen Lykins of Summersville, and Joe Lee Lykins, who died as an infant. She was also blessed with four grandchildren, Deanna Swearer of Newark, Del., Cheryl Fuhrman and Eric Lykins, both of Knoxville, Tenn., and Brian Withrow of St. Albans; and five great-grandchildren, Kelsy and Abby Swearer, Chris Foster Jr., Shania Fuhrman, and Andrew Withrow. She was born in Dille on June 10, 1919, and was one of 10 children of the late Lanty and Lucy Butcher Facemire. She is survived by two brothers, Bill Facemire of Dille and Delano Facemire of Summersville; two sisters, Athelene Ashley of Cowen and Carlene Triplett of Adairsville, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews. Vada attended schools in both Dille and Widen, was a member of Big Union Baptist Church, Dille, and, in her later years, attended the Bennett Memorial Methodist Church, Glade Creek. She was gifted with many talents, was an excellent seamstress, cook, homemaker, and had a beautiful tenor voice. Besides being a dedicated wife and mother, she also worked at several different jobs outside the home, the last of which was the shoe factory. A special thank you goes to all the dedicated workers at the Summersville Extended Care Facility for the loving care they gave during her stay there. Feb 14 2010   Andy Subrick, 79, of Charleston passed away in CAMC Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Andy had lived in Charleston for 60 years and was a native of Widen, Clay County. He retired from general engineering and had formerly worked on freighters transporting goods on the Great Lakes. He was an Air Force veteran and supported St. Stephen's United Methodist Church on Twilight Drive. Andy was preceded in death by his parents, Nick and Mary Subrick; and two brothers, Joe and John “Nick” Subrick. He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda J. Subrick; daughters, Connie Wood and husband Chris of Charleston and Angel Cincinnati and husband Steve of Dunbar; grandchildren, Alan Riley, Miranda Riley, Britney Beasley, and Brandon Beasley. Feb 10 2010 Roger D. Hartwell, 63, of Charleston, previously of Clay, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010. Born in Powellton, to Dolores and James Hartwell, Roger retired from WVU Tech in Montgomery. He was a member of Dry Branch Community Church and devoted his life to Christ. Feb 3 2010  Ruth Elizabeth Simmons, 88, of Clay, quietly went home to be with the Lord surrounded by her family on Monday, February 1, 2010, at CAMC, after a short illness. Born October 11, 1921, in Lake City, Tennessee, she was the wife of the late Sidney H. Simmons and the daughter of the late Timothy and Annie Hendren of Curtain, WV. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Thurman and William (Sam), and sister, Lillie Hendren. Ruth was a loving mother and homemaker as well as an active participant in her community for many years. She became the director the Christian Service Center following years as a volunteer. In 2003 she founded and directed the Heart to Heart Service Center until retiring in 2009. These non-profit agencies are based in Clay and dedicated to assisting the community with medical necessities and emergency expenses. She earned the coveted Jefferson Award for her selfless actions in the field of volunteering.  Through her 45 years in Clay County she was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Lions Club, and Widows Circle. She was nominated and selected Belle of the 2006 Golden Delicious Apple Festival. She was an avid bingo player for many years. Her most joyous hours were spent visiting with her family and friends. Surviving her are daughters and sons-in-laws, Linda and Earl Given of Strange Creek, WV, Sharon and Peter Turcic, Donna and Mitchell (Mick) Samples, and Rosalea Jackson, all of Charleston, WV; grandsons and daughter-in-law William (Billy) and Kelly Morehead of Looneyville WV, Sidney Jackson of Charleston WV, Matthew Jackson of Bremerton WA; granddaughter Kellie Morehead of Pinch, WV; five great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters. Feb 3 2010  Lenore S. Hardman, 80, died early in the morning on Sunday, January 31, 2010, after a long illness.  She was born Olivia Lenore Samples in Procious, WV to the late Grover and Eva Samples.  She graduated from Clay High School in Clay, WV.  In 1946 she married Ervin Ray Hardman after he returned from serving in the Navy during WWII.  They were married for 58 years until his death in 2004.  She was employed for thirty years in the Kanawha County school system, first as a cook at J. E. Robins Elementary School and later as supply and equipment manager at the school facility services office in Crede.  She held a variety of leadership positions in the Kanawha County School Service Personnel Association, Greyhound Retirees Club, and U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.  More recently, she was also a member of the Red Hat Society and held a lifetime membership in the PTA.  She was a member of the Charleston First Church of the Nazarene, whose members supported her with much love and prayer and many cards during her long illness.  She is survived by a daughter, Cidney Keith and her husband, John, and grandchildren Lauren and David Keith of Erie, PA.  She is also survived by a son, Edward R. Hardman and his wife, Dianna, grandson Michael Hardman and his wife Courtney, and two great grandchildren, Taylor and Ashton, all of Winston Salem, NC. She is also survived by three sisters, Virginia E. Boggs of Procious, WV, Norma Johnson of Cordova, TN, and Dixie Hill and her husband, John, of Rockwall, TX.   A Service to Honor the Life of Lenore S. Feb 1 2010  Archie Graham Schoonover, 94, a resident of South Charleston for over 65 years, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2010. Archie was born November 11, 1915, in Elkurst, Clay County. He was the 7th of 12 children born to Winson and Ruth Davis Schoonover. Archie was a strong family man who believed in devoting time to his family, his city and his church. Archie retired as a senior chemist from Union Carbide in 1976 after 43 years of service and held several U.S. and foreign patents. First elected to the South Charleston City Council in 1958, he served 5 terms. He was the chairman of every major council committee, positions that included finance chairman and council president. He served as operational manager for the State Republican Headquarters and served on the Police Civil Service Commission. He also served as an installation officer of the first library board.  He was active in the South Charleston Lions club for 20 years, serving as treasurer, vice president and then president in 1983-1984. In 1991, the Lions Club named him “Citizen of the Year”. Archie received a Bachelors degree in chemistry from Morris Harvey College, served as president of the Alumni Council, and served on the College Board of Trustees. He was also an active member of the First Baptist Church of South Charleston. He sang in the choir and was a member of the Board of Deacons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Dessel Harold, Sylvia Shamblen, Goldie Blake, and Christine Sizemore; four brothers, Wershel, Hubert, Ralph, and Winson Schoonover; and his daughter, Cora Virginia Phillips. Mr. Schoonover is survived by his wife of 69 years, Cora Virginia Hughes; three of four daughters, Elizabeth Wansley, Carol Smith, and Debra S. (Robert) Shoun; eight grandchildren, William C. Wansley, Lisa Wansley, David Wansley, Ashton (Laura) Phillips, Jessica Phillips, Kathryn DeCarlo, Michael DeCarlo, and Robert DeCarlo; one great-grandchild, Connor Lane; two sisters, Pauline Parsons and Kathleen Bowen; one brother, Daniel Schoonover; one sister-in-law, Mary Price; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jan 30 2010  James M. King, 80, of Marion, passed peacefully, surrounded by his loving and devoted family Thursday, January 28 , 2010. Born September 6, 1929, he was the son of the late Okey M. and Savannah M. King. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sons, Rocky and Roger King and his siblings, Howard E. King, Carl D. King and Lillian Ruth Shamblin, James was deeply religious of the Baptist Faith and attended First Freewill-Crissinger Rd when able. While living in WV, he worked in the coal mines. After coming to Marion in 1960, he worked for Glen-Gary Brick Company in Caledonia, OH, as a shift supervisor. He is survived by his wife, Virginia King, of Marion, OH, whom he married on July 24, 1948; their children, Beverly Bunker, James C. (Linda) King, Vivian (Terry) Beck, Mark E. (Teresa) King; grandsons, Robin Van meter, James C. Kathleen was a homemaker and enjoyed her family. She served as a volunteer at the Veterans Hospital with Navy mothers. She is survived by her children, Gary and Brenda of Dayton, Ohio, Pat of LaGrange, Ohio, and Nancy and Mary Kay of North Olmsted, Ohio. She has 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Born on May 22, 1948, in Clay County, she was the daughter of the late C. Earl Carte and Ruby Gray Carte. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn Rogers and grandson, Aaron Blake Nottingham. Jan 21 2010  Arnold Jerry Triplett, 71, of Clay died January 20, 2010, at home. Born on August 23, 1938, he was the son of the late Banes and Mary Triplett. He accepted the Lord as his Savior, publicly announcing this fact on December 29, 2009. Gene was a retired coal miner, a member of the UMWA, a World War II Army veteran, and a member of the Clay VFW Post 4419. Jan 13 2010  Kenneth Hibbitts Stewart, 88, of Surprise, AZ, formerly of Spencer, WV, died Sunday, January 3, 2010, at home. He was born September 14, 1921, at Bucyrus, OH, a son of the late Francis and Nina (Oberlander) Stewart.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Veronica Stewart.  Ken was a retired district manager of Prudential Insurance Company, former co-owner of the Queen Bee Restaurant and the Kwik Shop in Spencer, and former member and Past President of the Roane County Commission from January 1983 until December 1988.  He was a member of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Spencer and the Knights of Columbus.   He was a Navy veteran of WWII and a member of the West Virginia American Legion Post 21.  Ken was an avid bowler and golfer, and a member of the Roane County Country Club.  Survivors include a daughter, Charlene L. Lockitski of Goodyear, AZ; two sons, Ronald K. Stewart of Spencer and Dr. James A. Stewart of Portsmouth, VA; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 13 at 11:00 a.m. in the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Spencer, with the Rev. Jan 10 2010  Thomas Gerald Browning Sr., 71, of Bomont, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 7, 2010, at home after a long illness. Tom was an Army veteran, a retired truck driver, coach of the Elk District girls' softball team, a member of the North American Fishing and Hunting Club and his favorite pastime was pitching horseshoes with his Blue Creek buddies. He was loved by all and never knew an enemy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Newman Browning and Dollie (Goodwin) Cottrell; brothers, William, Cebert, Paul, Carl, and Arthur Browning. Survivors include his wife, Jeanette (Shea) Browning; son, Thomas G. Jan 7 2010  James Dana Bailey, 90, of Newton, died Monday, January 4, 2010, in the CAMC – Memorial Hospital, Charleston. He was born September 25, 1919, in Calhoun County, a son of the late Henderson Calvert and Lillie Ann Hunt Bailey.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia P. Greathouse Bailey; a son, James Dana “Jim” Bailey, II; sisters, Tressie Bailey, Delphia Brannon, Eva Spencer  and Dessie Noe; brothers, Bruce, Woody, Clifford and H.C. Bailey, Jr.  Mr. Bailey retired in 1980, from Union Carbide Corp., Alloy, WV.  He was a longtime member of the Newton Baptist Church, Newton, where he served many years as Sunday school superintendent.  Also, he enjoyed baseball.  Survivors include a daughter, Dawne Ann Church of Kerrville, TX; a son and daughter-in-law, Calvin and Ruth Bailey of Cross Lanes; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Born February 16, 1918 in Swandale, WV. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Verner Acree and Nancy Margaret Woods. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband James (Max) Pauley and a sister, Jeraldine Acree Bays. Oleta was a retired educator for over 30 years, an artist, a published author and world traveler. She is survived by her son, James M. Pauley Jr., and his wife Corazon A.
